LAC TITICACA

A solar power plant on lake Titicaca, at over 4000m above sea level

Raphaël Domjan, with the support of the SolarPlanet foundation and the Yverdon-les-Bains area, travelled to Lake Titicaca and fitted a small solar power plant on Amantani island, at over 4000 metres above sea level.

This power plant has several aims:

  • assess the potential of solar energy in high altitudes in the Lake Titicaca area
  • a solar plant to help the local population
  • promote solar energy and greener transport

Raphaël met the Peruvian authorities, who were very interested in this project.
A solar boat project on Lake Titicaca, initiated by the SolarPlanet foundation is now in the hands of a local organisation which hopes to launch the highest altitude solar boat in 2017/2018.
